Art books can be found by searching the catalog. For more information on how to search the library's catalog, view our tutorial.
One can find Ebooks either by searching NetLibrary or by using the library's catalog. To retrieve only ebooks from a catalog search, use the advanced search option and choose "Ebooks only" under limits. To view books in the Net Library from home, you will first need to set up an account from a computer on campus. To learn more about searching NetLibrary, view our tutorial.
Articles can be searched online using the databases in the Alabama Virtual Library. Some available databases associated with literature are listed below. (Descriptions are from the AVL databases description page.)
Academic OneFile - Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995.
Biography Reference Bank - Biography Reference Bank contains biographical information on approximately half a million people, from antiquity to the present, along with thousands of images. It contains the full text of the articles from more than 100 volumes of biographical reference books published by H. W. Wilson, including all the articles from all volumes of Current Biography, the World Author Series, Nobel Prize Winners, World Artists, World Film Directors, American Reformers, and numerous biographical books on musicians and composers throughout history. Also included are thousands of biographies from other respected publishers, including Macmillan UK, Greenwood, Houghton Mifflin, and Harvard University Press.
Expanded Academic ASAP - Supports general reference needs of advanced high school and college undergraduate students. Indexes 2,600 journals with full text articles from 1,400 titles in academic disciplines including the arts, humanities, social sciences, and science and technology. The database indexes national news periodicals, general interest magazines, newswires, and the New York Times.
InfoTrac OneFile - A 'mega-content' database indexing over 6,000 periodicals, newspapers, and newswires with backfile coverage from 1980 to present, updated daily. The database includes full text articles for 3,000 periodicals, 89 wire services and business press releases. OneFile offers single source searching for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics.
SIRS Knowledge Source - Articles professionally selected from magazines, journals, and newspapers to provide general research information on topics exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, and political issues. In addition to the general reference database, Researcher, the site includes SIRS Government Reporter for information by and about the U.S. government, and SIRS Renaissance for information in the arts and humanities.
The Directory of Open-Access Journals has also created a list of free, open-access, peer-reviewed visual arts journals which you can search for articles.
The Shelton State Library holds copies of many art periodicals. To find out whether the library holds print copies of specific journals, use the advance search option to search the Library Catalog using the limit "Periodicals Only." To find out which journals are available electronically through the AVL, search SerialsSolutions. You may also want to browse the Directory of Open-Access Journals' list of open-access, peer-reviewed visual arts journals.

Archives of American Art Part of the Smithsonian Institution, this site provides access to the largest collection of documents on the history of the visual arts in the U.S. with more than 13 million items.
Art History Resources on the Web An index of art history web sites produced by C. Whitcombe, Professor of art history at Sweet Briar College.
Gateway to Art History Art history resources on the Web from Harcourt-Brace Publishers.
World Art Treasures 100,000 art images on-line.
National Gallery of Art Providing information about the National Gallery as well as on-line tours of its collection.

Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art Image gallery for one of the Midwest's finest collections of 18th, 19th nd 20th century works of art.
Amon Carter Museum Noted for its collection of the works of Frederic Remington and Charles W. Russell (considered the single most important collection of these artists' works), the Amon Carter Museum of Fort Worth also includes a wide range of 19th and early 20th century works of American artists.
Frye Art Museum Emphasis here is on American and European artists of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as work of artists from the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
