Print Periodicals

The Shelton State Libraries carry over 400 current periodicals (magazines, journals, and newspapers) in traditional print format and continue to maintain selected titles in microfilm backfiles.   You can discover whether or not the library holds print copies of the periodical for which you are looking by performing an advanced search in the library's catalog and setting the limits to one of the periodicals locations.  There are no records for the articles within the journals in the library's catalog, just the journals that hold them.

On the Martin Campus, newspapers are shelved near the circulation desk and periodicals are shelved under the windows.  Back issues are stored in the Periodicals Room beside the Copy Room.  All periodicals in all formats are shelved by title in alphabetical order.  On the Fredd Campus, newspapers are stored in a standing rack and current periodicals are stored in a circular floor stand.  No back issues are kept.

If the library does not hold print copies of the periodical for which you are looking and you would like to know if the electronic version is available in the Alabama Virtual Library, you can search here (AVL card required). For more information about finding articles in databases, try our journal articles page.
